Man Gets 30 Years For Snatching Emefa's Handbag

For violently attacking and robbing one Emefa Kattah of her handbag, Kwasi Debrah has been jailed for 30 years. The handbag was said to have contained two mobile phones, two dresses, a Capri pants and a mobile phone charger. The presiding judge, Mr. Francis Obiri, stated that the sentence was to serve as a deterrent against robbery, which was becoming a national canker. Kwasi Debrah is said to have attacked Ms Kattah on October 25 at about 4am when she was returning home on the Okpoi Gonno Market high street, a suburb of the Spintex Road. Briefing The Finder newspaper, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Simon Agbodeka, Teshie District Commander, stated that Kwasi Debrah snatched Ms. Kattah�s bag and fled the scene. However, Ms. Kattah raised an alarm, which attracted people to the scene to come to her aid. They pursued Debrah but he managed to jump a wall and entered someone�s house, where he took two phones from the bag and dropped the bag. The inmates of the house also woke up and joined the chase but Debrah scaled the wall again in an attempt to escape but was arrested by the mob. A search on him revealed the two phones he stole, one screw driver and pliers. He led the mob to where he dropped the bag, after which he was handed over to the police. Debrah admitted the offence and was arraigned before court on November 1, and subsequently on November 11, he was jailed.
