Ghana On The Way To Achieving MDGs - Lordina Mahama

Ghanas first lady, Lordina Mahama says the government has started the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) Acceleration Framework to address the challenges on child mortality and maternal health. According to her, government is committed to making quality health care accessible to all as it had started making significant progress in the provision of health facilities, and through the Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) compounds. The CHIPS compounds have proven to be a great success throughout the country, and government is working to complete another 1,600 units by the year 2016, the first lady noted. Lordina Mahama was addressing the MEDSHARE third annual share the good gala night in New York,USA . Medshare is a non -governmental organisation dedicated to improving the environment and healthcare through the efficient recovery and the redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment to underserved healthcare facilities in developing countries. According to her, in Ghana, Medshares positive impact is being felt through the medical supplies and equipment that have been received by some of our communities.. The Lordina Foundation, which used to be known as ASOIP, has also donated a number of hospital equipment to many polyclinics and health centres across Ghana, and also made some of these supplies available to our Members of Parliament for their constituency health facilities, She said. She revealed that her foundations hospital equipment supply programme is informed by the realisation that while there may be willing health personnel in many community health centres, the absence of some critical items like beds, sterilization units etc could hamper the delivery of health care. I am confident that with the support of Medshare and partnership with you all here tonight, my office will be able to do more in support of the poor in Ghana and supplement what Government is doing in the areas of health, education and other social interventions, She added For her part, Chair of the North East Regional Council of MEDSHARE, Sandy Tytel commended Ghanas first lady for her zeal toward improving health care in her country and called for greater collaboration between the Lordina foundation and Medshare .Meanwhile Ghana will soon benefit from another consignment of medical supplies from Medshare .
