Padmore Baffour Agyapong, Country Director of Compassion International, has called on churches to help alleviate poverty by advocating for concerns of children.
He noted that though most churches had dedicated departments that catered for children; their actual needs were usually overlooked.
�Children are our future hence the need to continuously provide holistic development plans to enable these children become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults,� noted Baffour Agyapong.
He was speaking at the Compassion International Annual Pastors Conference under the theme: �Effective Partnership for Christian Holistic Child Development� in Accra.
Baffour Agyapong admonished the churches to take the issue of advocacy serious and find better ways of assisting children not only in the church but within the society they operated. He disclosed that the organization was working with 23 different denominations and had over 205 different partners.
Rev Samuel Dickson Dumevi of Kotobabi Global Evangelical Church in an interview disclosed that with the assistance of Compassion International the church had been able to identify the peculiar needs of children and offered them the needed assistance.
�Our association with Compassion International has enlightened us to look more into the welfare and rights of children. We initially focused on our own church members but now we have seen the need to extend assistance to other vulnerable children.�
Very Rev George Wesley Tagoe of Emmanuel Methodist Church at Somanya appreciated the effort of the organization in its awareness creation about issues concerning children.
Mr John Nipah, Ministry Service Manager of Compassion International said, �It is better to invest in children who are deemed the future leaders of the country than directing the resources of the church on physical structure and designs.�
