NDC, NPP Welcome Moves To Probe Allegations Of Impropriety In Election Petition

The two major political parties involved in the election petition case have welcomed the probe into allegation of inappropriate conduct in the delivering of the judgement. Both the NPP and NDC say the probe instituted by the Chief Justice will settle all doubts in the judgement delivered by the nine justices of the Supreme Court in August. The NPP early this month called on the Chief Justice as a matter of urgency to institute a full scale investigation into the verdict on the election petition. The calls come on the heels of a leaked tape which captures the voice of Former Deputy Communications Minister Victoria Hammah, in which she alleged in a conversation that Nana Oye Lithur was privy to the verdict before it was delivered. Speaking to Radio Ghana, a member of the NPP legal team, Mike Ocquaye said the comments made by Victoria Hammah should not be taken lightly. Meanwhile, a member of the NDC legal team, Abraham Amaliba asked the Chief Justice to extend the probe to include those made by some members of the NPP captured on tape making similar comments.
