Woman and son murdered

The bodies of a woman and her son suspected to have been murdered, were found in a pool of blood in their residence at Laklevikope, a suburb of Denu, on Friday morning. Both had their throats cut, with multiple wounds on the womans body. The name of the woman was given as Aseye Naomi Avevor, 38, from Keta and her son, Mawunyo, who was about five years. The kitchen knife supposedly used in the act was found stuck in the womans private parts. Neighbours said they saw mother and son before bedtime the previous evening. Both police and local sources suspected the murder might have taken place early Friday dawn. The motive of the killing and those behind it remained unknown and no arrests have been made. An Aflao police source told Ghana News Agency that police rushed to the rented house of the woman on a tipoff. The source said the body of Mawunyo, the boy, was discovered in a plastic bowl full of water in their chamber and hall apartment, located in a developing residential area. The two were the only occupants of the house. The bodies have been deposited at Keta Municipal Hospital morgue pending autopsy. The source said the womans husband, who work in Tema is yet to be contacted. A large crowd of people thronged the scene, shouting appeals to the police to expedite action to stop the spate of murders in the area. In June a man, now in custody, with three accomplices, allegedly severed the head of his wife and secretly buried her body and mounted idols on the spot. Another man, who is also in custody, two years ago allegedly murdered his wife, dismembered the body before secretly burying it.
