PPP Spits Fire In Kumasi...

RESIDENTS OF Kumasi last Saturday had their fair share of the feel of the anti-corruption demonstration by the Progressive Peoples Partys (PPP) organized in Kumasi last Saturday, with a call on President John Mahama and his team to declare their assets. The Kumasi version of the PPP anti-corruption demonstration, which started from the Kumasi Jubilee Park, went through Asafo market, then to the Central Business district of Adum, before it finally ended at the Party office at Adum, near COCOBOD House. The protesters displayed placards with inscriptions, some of which read; respect our mandate, Save Ghana from Corruption , we can stop corruption, sack corrupt officials in Government , say no to corruption , Chop Chop go kill Ghana , Our taxes must count , the thievery is just too MUCH and where is the Oil money among others. The National Secretary of PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw said the PPP is committed to transparency and accountability and would want President John Dramani Mahama and his team to declare their assets to Ghanaians, just like when he (President Mahama) went to the Ghana Revenue Authority in the company of journalists to pay his tax. He stated that if President Mahama and his appointees are unable to disclose their assets then he should forget about the numerous calls for crusade against corruption in Ghana. Asamoah Siaw reiterated PPPs call on Government to separate the office of the Attorney General from the Ministry of Justice to become an independent Public Prosecutor, who shall be prosecuting those who have defrauded the state in one way or the other. The Attorney General must be independent to work effectively without bias, and to be able to prosecute anyone who wrongs the state. Mr. Siaw dared President Mahama to retrieve the GH51 million from Woyome, if he is committed to the fight against corruption. The National Chairman of PPP, Mr. Nii Allotey Brew Hammond said the appointment of state ministers from Parliament, as enshrined in the constitution must be amended towards separating the Legislative arm of government from the Executive to provide effective checks and balances. The PPP advocated that Government appointees are elected because such appointments breed corruption. According to the party, the aspirations of the people are never addressed as government initiatives are forced on the people.
