West Africa Football Union, WAFU has petitioned FIFA to increase Africa�s slots for the Mundial. At its congress in Kumasi to re-elect its President, the West African sub regional body unanimously agreed to petition FIFA over what they termed unfair sharing of the world cup slots in relation to the size of the African continent. Re-elected president of the Union Kwesi Nyantekyi in his victory speech post-election said �We have passed a resolution called the Kumasi declaration and we are petitioning FIFA to increase Africa�s slot for the world cup. Africa has as many as 54 countries and we have only five slots whilst Europe who have relatively fewer countries have as many as thirteen slots.� �Apart from European soccer giants like Germany, Italy and co. the smaller European countries must be made to engage African opponents in a play-offs.� �Those small European countries should meet Togo or Burkina Faso and let see if they can qualify.� Nyantekyi said. The West Africa Football Union was founded in 1975 with all the current members, but in 2011 the Confederation of African Football decided to split it into two zones, citing "the organisational issues that face WAFU. Mauritania is the only WAFU member to also be a member of the Union of Arab Football Associations.
