Three Suspected Armed Robbers Killed

Three suspected armed robbers were on Sunday night shot and killed in a shoot-out with the Police at East Cantonments in Accra. The robbers, numbering four, were said to have attempted to rob a house in the area, but the timely intervention of the police thwarted their efforts. Items retrieved from them included one foreign pistol, a locally-manufactured pistol, seven cartridges and a knife. Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP), Freeman Tettey of the Police Public Affairs Directorate told The Ghanaian Times, in Accra yesterday, that the police had information that some people were planning to rob a house at East Cantoments. He said police personnel from the Command were quickly deployed to the scene to ambush them. DSP Tettey said on December 1, at about 8 p.m., the four suspected armed robbers, who are believed to be in their twenties arrived at the house to rob. He said the robbers on seeing the police, opened fire and the police responded killing two of the robbers and injuring another. He said the injured robber died while being sent to the Police Hospital in Accra for treatment, adding that the fourth suspect escaped with gun shot wounds. DSP Tettey said the bodies have since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary.. He appealed to hospitals and health centres to report to the police of any client who visits their facilities with gun shot wounds.
