Dr. Opuni Was Not Reassigned Because Of Feud With Tobinco - Adu Asare

Former Member of Parliament for Adenta constituency, Kwadwo Adu Asare has described as erroneous comments that former Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Chief Executive, Dr. Stephen K. Opuni was reassigned due to the fray between the authority and Tobinco Pharmaceuticals. The FDA and Tobinco has for some time now been engaging in a media war after the authority accused the latter of importing fake drugs into the country. Subsequently, Tobinco described the impasse as spiritual and organized a prayer session for God to intervene. According to them, the fracas was affecting the reputation of their company. Therefore when President Mahama reassigned Dr. Stephen Opuni as the new Chief Executive of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), some attributed it to the prayers offered by management and workers of Tobinco. However, Kwadwo Adu-Asare in a panel discussion on Peace FMs Kokrokoo indicated that it was wrong to make such assumptions. According to him, the decision to move Dr Opuni to a new role was in the pipeline for some six months now, thus it is not as a result of the prayers. The prayers they prayed was a late prayer. Meanwhile, Mr. Hudu Mogtari, a Pharmacist, has taken over as the Acting Chief Executive of the FDA.
