Former Deputy Energy Minister, Kwabena Tahir Hammond, allowed his emotions to get the better part of him when he threw caution to the wind and launched a blistering verbal attack on the Majority Leader in Parliament; Benjamin Kunbuor in the House, for making an anti-corruption statement that clearly did not sit down well with him (Hammond). Dr Kunbour had sought to champion an anti-corruption crusade by politicians and made references to the Woyome and oil drill ship saga. ��Charity begins at home�corruption is seen as a disease of the political elite of this country�and the blatant display of the Woyome and oil drill ship placards by MPs on the floor of Parliament have confirmed that perception,� he said. But the attempt by the Majority Leader to link the Woyome controversy to the drill ship sale in 2001, of which the Judgment Debt Sole Commission is still trying to find the whereabouts of US$3.5 million of the US$24 million proceeds, did not go well with the NPP MP, who, feeling disrespected, thundered in a barely disguised angry tone. �Mr. Speaker this is the most disgraceful statement that has ever been made by anybody in this house (Parliament). It is insulting. It is foolish and should never be allowed in this house Mr. Speaker, it is stupid, useless and a foolish statement. It is totally nonsense,� he fumed. Not even the threat by the Speaker, Rt Hon Doe Adjaho, that he risks being thrown out could faze him as he damned the consequences and hurled further invectives at Dr Kumbuor whiles demanding a retraction. �I ask for the statement to be withdrawn immediately�Mr. Speaker I ask for the stupid and useless and foolish statement to be withdrawn immediately�it is palpable nonsense�. The House was subsequently thrown into pandemonium characterized by disorderliness and deafening noises. According to him, he cannot be accused of embezzling 3.5 million dollars when the former Ambassador to the UK Chris Kpodo had just confirmed to the Judgement Debt Commission that he KT Hammond handed over to him a banker�s draft of 3.5 million in 2001. Hon. K.T. Hammond later apologized for his unruly behavior in the august House.
