The picture painted by panelists on Radio Ghana�s Current Affairs Programme, �Focus� on Wednesday indicates that Ghana is on the right track to achieve its target of zero percent of HIV infection by 2015. According to Acting Director of Technical Services at the Ghana AIDS Commission, Cosmos Ohene Adjei, the country has achieved 76% reduction of mother to child transmission, and hopes to hit the zero mark in the next two years. He also disclosed that the country is among a number of African countries that are coordinating efforts to manufacture anti-retroviral drugs locally. He again debunked rumours that the antiretroviral drugs are in short supply. He said there are currently 164 sites in the country where people can get their antiretroviral instead of travelling long distances to regional hospitals and Polyclinics. For her part, the Communications Manager of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Mrs Margeret Yamoah used the platform to explain the alleged refusal of MP's to be tested for their HIV Status to set an example for Ghanaians. She said the Commission is educating the public to demystify the fear and stigma attached to the disease. She called on all, especially pregnant women to be bold and get tested to prevent mother to child transmission of the disease.
