The two major political parties in Ghana, the NDC and the NPP have rejected a proposal from political scientist Dr. Kwesi Jonah that both parties form a unity government. Dr. Jonah argued that the country would be better developed if the two parties for about twelve years form a coalition government regardless of who wins an election. According to him, a coalition government is a better alternative to the current winner takes all system being practiced by the political parties. Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, George Lawson in an interview with XYZ News said the political parties are abiding by the 1992 constitution which doesn�t stipulate a one party state. �We are abiding by the 1992 constitution, it is not what we want, either than that everybody would do what he or she wants�so does he want us to throw the law away� Mr. Lawson said. Acting communications director of the NPP, Perry Okudzeto also rejected the suggestion saying the NDC and the NPP cannot work together since they operate under different ideologies. �Political parties operate based on principles and ideologies and there are differences within these parties as to how they think and their attitudes towards development. �We have two parties made up of two different genetic stands and we cannot work together in unity� Perry Okudzeto said.
