NDC NEC Member: Arrest Of Tobinco CEO Sheer Harassment

A National Executive Committee (NEC) member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer John Owusu Agyemang, has describe the arrest and near-incarceration of the Chief Executive Officer of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited, Mr. Samuel Amo Tobin by officials of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), as sheer harassment. Tobinco Pharmaceutical Limited for weeks unend after the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), accused the local pharmaceutical giant of allegedly importing fake and unregistered medicines into the country. The arrest follows on the heels of a heated bust-up between EOCO officials and workers of Tobinco when the anti-crime agency attempted to close down one of the companys facilities at Spintex in Accra. Pontificating on the action of EOCO on Hot Fm, the outspoken NDC member averred that the security agency goofed in its operation due to the fact that it failed to produce a search warrant at the alleged new site of Tobinco; even two weeks after the pharmaceutical company dared EOCO to produce one. Wondering the relevance of that particular search by EOCO, he quizzed, why did they have to wait till two weeks without action against Tobinco after the first attempt, if indeed fake drugs were allegedly being hidden at the new site; why didnt they go for a search warrant when they were initially prevented from gaining access to the warehouse, if indeed their search was that essential? for EOCO to wait till after two weeks of the said incident before arresting the boss (Tobin), is unacceptable especially when EOCO failed to go back to search the place for whatever they suspected was being hidden at the facility, he stressed. He therefore advised EOCO to comply with the laws of the land and conduct due diligence when carrying out an operation to avoid people speculating that their activities are politically motivated. .I will plead with EOCO to comply with the laws of the land.if they do things this way, Ghanaians will begin to lay blame on NDC government as the party responsible for the action of EOCO; dont forget that EOCO officials are public servants and not politicians..to be honest with you, what happened at the new site of Tobinco was sheer harassment and nothing else, he asserted.
