Tension At Ministry Of Science &Tech. As Minister Blacklists 10 Directors

There is uneasy calm at the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology as the sector Minister, Dr. Joe Oteng Adjei has been accused by the workers of blacklisting some Directors and unilaterally posting some to different government agencies. In an interaction with some worried workers at the Ministry who pleaded anonymity, some workers who were on contract and were unilaterally sacked by the Minister were still to be paid their six months allowances. Some of the Directors who have either resigned, posted elsewhere, blacklisted or dismissed on the orders of the Minister are Madam Salah, Chief Director, Mr. Rudolf Kuzegh, Director of Finance and Administration, Dr. Nicholas Iddi, In-charge of UN Projects, Dr. Babanawo, Head of JECCA, Lawyer Hamidu, Deputy Human Resource Director, one Mr. Dela who is the Internal Auditor, and Peter Derry. The others are Mr. Okorie, In charge of UN Environmental Projects, one Mr Forson, Head of Transport, Dr. Kutachie- Head of Science and Technology in charge of Laptop distribution, Philip Aki, Principal Accountant and Kweku Eshun, Head of the ICT. According to the workers, Dr Oteng Adjei wanted to change virtually all the Directors at the Ministry but complaints and the mounting tension have compelled him to halt that decision. Although some of the Directors are no more going to be reposted because of the pressure, the Minister has rendered them redundant. In the case of Kweku Eshun who once contested for the position of the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), he had been told to pack bag and baggage out of the Ministry even though he set up the ICT Department of the Ministry. According to the workers, any one who dared challenged or tried to offer any advice to the Minister was treated as an outcast. The New Crusading GUIDE could not get any official response from the Ministry and the Minister. While the Minister was said to have travelled on an outreach program, other officials remained mum.
