The Northern Regional communication team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called off the strike it embarked on to register its protest on the seeming lack of attention and neglect on the part of the national executives.
Members of the Northern Regional communications team of the opposition NPP unanimously announced a boycott of all media activities of the party indefinitely in solidarity with their incarcerated colleagues.
This, according to the members, was in protest against the party�s lackadaisical handling of the case of the five convicted NPP supporters who they claimed were jailed unjustly.
According to them, when five youth activists of the party faced trial over the murder of Mohammed Rashid, also a youth activist of the ruling NDC in 2009, the national executives appeared to have neglected them.
According to the party�s communication team, the juror trial was politicised and for that matter justice was not served.
They therefore called on the party to assemble a strong team of sharp lawyers as a party that boasts of having the best legal brains to partner Nana Obiri Boahene, the lawyer for the accused persons, in the appeal.
It would be recalled that a Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Lawrence Mensah convicted Yahuza Yakubu, a known New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist in Tamale, to death by hanging for the murder of one Rashid Mohammed in February 2009.
His accomplices � Majeed Alhassan, Habib Mohammed, Sayibu Alhassan and Imoro Gondanaa � were also found guilty for conspiracy and convicted to 36 years in prison each.
Habib Mohammed, the third accused, was additionally given a 10-year jail term after he was found guilty for causing harm, but the sentence would run concurrently, according to the judge.
According to the supporters of the NPP, the incarcerated members were all innocent but were incarcerated for political expediency by the NDC government.
In response, the national executives sent a delegation, led by Mr Fred Oware, First National Vice-Chairman of the party, and Mr Joe Ghartey, who promised to address the concerns raised by the communication team.
