Bar Attendant Stabs Nephew To Death

A Cape Coast Circuit court on Monday remanded a 59-year- old bar attendant, Kofi Sam, for allegedly murdering his nephew, Edward Kotei, in his bar at Pedu in Cape Coast. His plea was not taken and will be re-arraigned on December 16. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Amoako told the Court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu that in the early hours on Saturday, November 26, the brother of the accused, Mr Emmanuel Kotei, came to the bar to buy three shots of local gin known as apketeshie and refused to pay for it after drinking. Later in the afternoon, Emmanuel came back and ordered for another two shots of the gin but Sam refused to sell to him, demanding he should the settled the previous debt. The two exchanged words in anger. Inspector Amoako said Sam insulted Mr Kotei and he went home to inform his son, Edward Kotei, who followed him to the drinking spot armed with a knife to take revenge for his father. He said when the two got to the bar they met Sam and dared him to come out from behind his counter if he was a man. Chief Inspector Amoako told the court that Edward pulled out a knife and threatened to kill his uncle, Sam. He said Sam then entered his store and came out with a knife and stabbed Edward on the neck. He was rushed to the Cape Coast Regional Hospital but died on arrival. A report was lodged at the police station and the accused was arrested.
