Who Wins The Sports Personality Of The Year?

Categories and nominees for the maiden edition of the Happy FM Sports Fans Awards has been recently announced and James Akwasi Appiah, Coach of the Ghana National Team, has received nomination in one of the top categories, the sports personality of the year. The former national team captain is competing against, other big names including Emmanuel Tagoe, and Asamoah Gyan in the same category. Other categories include�Footballer of the Year � (Foreign)� with Kwadwo Asamoah, Dede Ayew, Suley Muntari, �Footballer of the Year � (Local)�, Yahaya Mohammed, Ruben Gnagne, and Eric Ofori Antwi, �Sports Discipline of the Year� category has Football, Beach Soccer, and Hockey, Basket Ball School of the Year has Mfantsipim School, Wesley Girls, and Accra High School, while Football Coach of the Year category include Didi Dramani, David Duncan, and Bashiru Hayford. Organizers are giving sports fans the unique opportunity to also vote for worthy sports individuals for particular categories which have no pre-selected personalities. They include Unsung hero of the year, Beach Soccer player of the year, Hockey player of the year, Athlete of the year �Track and field, and Boxer of the year. Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah, General Manager of Happy FM in an interview expressed his excitement at being the first sports station to initiate this unique awards scheme. He said �This awards event is a great opportunity for Sports fans to vote for, recognize, and celebrate their sports icons in a special way. Fans will have 100% voting power to choose personalities and sports disciplines enlisted in the various categories.� He added that a technical team made up of ten (10) eminent personalities in the Sports Fraternity will oversee the selection of sports personalities and organizations that deserve to be honored�. The Awards will be an annual event that will give sports fans and the Ghanaian populace the opportunity to recognize and celebrate deserving sports personalities and institutions by voting for them to win in specific categories. Voting has already begun; Sports fans can vote by texting the names of their chosen personalities to 1723 on all networks.
