NPP Members Secure Interlocutory Injunction Against Party

Some members New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra Region have secured an interlocutory injunction against the partys and the constituencys chairman for what they describes as selections instead of elections during the recent polling station elections held at the constituency. This, according to the members of the party, is to ensure that the party abides by the principles of democracy in its upcoming election. Speaking on Eye Witness News, lawyer for the aggrieved NPP members, Gary Nimako, said the Krowor constituency in its recent constituency elections only did partial selections instead of going through the necessary electoral procedures. I believe you recall that the NPP per, our constitution, will have to hold elections in all the constituencies across the nation so our party strictly the Krowor constituency is trying to do the same thing. What happened in the constituency however was that when they were directed to conduct the elections, they decided to select people as though it was for a football match. But in a democratic society, we do what we call elections and not selections so what they did was a total affront and was alien to the constitution of the NPP. In that regard, Mr. Nimako emphasized the need for every political party to conform to the democratic principles of the nation. When you are called to do elections you do not to do selections so what we are calling for is for the court to restrain the executives, Mr. Nimako explained. Meanwhile, the Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Ishmael Ashitey has denied the allegation that the polling station elections were a selection and not an election.
