Ghana Coach Appiah Insists Only Black Stars Best Players Will Play At 2014 World Cup

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah insists only the best players from the country will be selected to play for the Black Stars at the World Cup in Brazil in June next year. The ex-Ghana captain came in for a flak this week when he was reported to have said that some benchwarmers could make his squad for the tournament in South America. The Black Stars have some players who are inactive with their clubs in Europe and Ghana will have a tough task in the group matches. The West Africans will play Germany, Portugal and the United States in Group G and Appiah says he will take only the best players to the tournament. We want the best players and only the best players will be going to Brazil to represent the nation, Appiah said. My greatest concern is to have all my players available and without any injuries. I pray for that. I hope we arrive in Brazil with a solid unit and we will take it from there. The fact remains that Michael Essien for example has struggled for playing time at Chelsea but Ghana would not exclude him from their squad or starting team because of his immense talents and experience. Ghana are drawn against Germany in Group G alongside Portugal and the United States in the first round of next years World Cup.
