Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. says corruption allegations leveled against the leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) could affect the party�s chances of winning the 2016 general elections. He stated that a party accused of being corrupt even in opposition cannot be trusted to effectively manage the public purse if voted into power. Kwesi Pratt was commenting on the description of the NPP National Executives by Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong as a bunch of thieves. The outspoken NPP MP alleged that the executives failed to distribute motor bikes he personally donated for the party�s 2012 electioneering campaign but are now sharing it to prospective delegates to seek re-election. Kennedy Agyapong said such �selfish and corrupt executives� are not fit to be at the helm of affairs of the party and will therefore ensure they lose their positions. Some party leaders have hinted he [Agyapong] will be invited by the NPP�s Council of Elders to substantiate the allegation. But speaking on Alhaji and Alhaji, a political discussion programme on Accra based radio station Radio Gold Saturday, Kwesi Pratt said the corruption allegations has damaged the NPP beyond repair. According to him, a party hit by an allegation it has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of is nerve-racking. �The utterance of Kennedy Agyapong is the most damaging as far the NPP�s chances of securing power is concerned. This is the collapse of its anti-corruption campaign�. Kwesi Pratt said it is now evident that NPP�s claim about the NDC being corrupt is a typical case of the pot calling the kettle black. �If party leaders in opposition are stealing motor cycles what will happen if the national coffers is placed in their hands?�.
