We Cant Be Blamed For Delay In Data Centre Project

Officials of Top International Engineering Limited (TIEL), the main contractor of the National Data Centre in Accra, say the company is not responsible for the delay in the completion of the centre. The GHC40 million project, which started in 2010,was to be completed in July this year, but is now to be completed in February next year. Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Assistant Project Manager of the company, Mr Ji Yuan, said too many sub-contractors were involved in the project and that had been a major challenge in executing it. He said 14 sub-contractors were involved in executing the project and two more were yet to be nominated. He said the company could not control the sub-contractors because they were not chosen by TIEL. Inter Global Company Mr. Ji said the aluminum curtain installation caused the major delay of the project, adding that 70 per cent of the contract had been given to Inter Global Company (IGC) for the installation to be completed in early 2013 but this timeline had not been met. Curtain wall installation has been done since November, 2012 but up to now, at least one third of the work is still pending and this is affecting the main contractors work. he said He said the ABP Consult was the leading consultant of the project, and responsible for coordinating the main contractor and the sub-contractors. The ABP Consult is to put pressure on the IGC to deliver but they are also reluctant in delivering their job he said. Meeting deadline Mr. Ji said TIEL could not guarantee that the IGC could complete its work before February 2014 to enable the project to meet the deadline.
