Sampson Ahi, deputy minister of Works & Housing has appealed to the board and management of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to consider providing more accommodation to help reduce the 1.8 million housing deficit facing the country presently. According to him, the Corporation should not focus on providing housing for those in middle and upper classes alone but also consider those who fall below them. He explained that they could come up with mortgage systems that would give the ordinary person between 20 to 30 years to complete payment, so that irrespective of their income levels they could afford houses of their own. Addressing staff of the Corporation at its annual thanksgiving ceremony, which was held at the training center of the Corporation at Tema on Friday, Hon Ahi congratulated TDC for holding the programme annually to thank the Almighty God, as well as honour hard working staff of the Corporation. The deputy minister hinted that the government was working towards amending the corporation�s legislative instrument (LI) that limits it to operate only within Tema. He said the bill would soon be put before parliament and subsequently passed into law for the Corporation to move on with its job. Mr. T. Oko. Adjetey, board chairman of TDC commended workers who, over the years, have displayed selflessness and commitment towards making the Corporation what it is today and called on the staff to put their shoulders to the wheel to ensure that they move the Corporation forward. H said 2013 has been very successful for the Corporation in terms of its achievements and thanked the workers for the hard work they demonstrated to bring about the success story of TDC. Mr. Joe Abbey, Managing Director (MD) of TDC was grateful to all the workers for their commitment and dedication towards work, which indeed helped it to achieve its target for the year. Mr. Abbey said by July or August next year, TDC would have completed work on a project aimed at installing an ERP software that will help streamline and fast track its processes. �The team is working earnestly and hopefully by July/August thereabout, the ERP will be deployed in all our offices and with the click of a button we will get all the information we need instead of crisscrossing the corridors into offices for information�, he revealed. He continued that the mainstay projects of his outfit which include; Community 24 Sites & Services, Community 2 shops and offices and the Kpone Affordable Housing Project are all on course, adding serious work on the Kpone housing projects will start in middle of next year. The TDC MD noted; �The other ongoing projects include the staff housing at Community 22, Terrace housing at Comm. 23, Land Acquisition Efforts, the amendment of our legislative instrument and the phase 2 of the Comm. 24 Site & Services project�.
