Take Mahamas 2014 Promises With A Pinch Of Salt Akomea

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South, Nana Akomea, is asking Ghanaians not to believe any promise made by President John Mahama. According to him, the supposed Better Ghana Agenda promise made to Ghanaians has turned out to be a charade after a year in office. He was reacting to President Mahama's assurance that new doors of opportunities will be opened in the country in 2014. Speaking at the thanksgiving service of Aglow International-Ghana in Accra over the weekend, he among other things mentioned economic growth and job creation as some of the prospects in 2014. President Mahama called on Ghanaians to believe in the ability of his government to make things work in the country. But on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Nana Akomea scoffed at the presidents rhetoric adding that it must be taken with a pinch of salt. He said the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in its bid to win the 2012 general election, rolled out a litany of promises to counter the NPP. Citing governments promise to build two hundred new community based Senior High Schools (SHS) in four years to corroborate his claim, the NPP man stressed that the promises were meant to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians. Nana Akomea further noted that the Mahama-led administration after one year in office, has done nothing but to misappropriate public funds. This year started with 8.7 billion deficit, which is 12 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is a record since the Fourth Republic but when the NPP left 1.98 billion, they said the country was broke, he stated. The former Okaikoi South MP intimated that the unbridled hardship in the country is due to the reckless spending at the presidency at the expense of Ghanaians. Nana Akomea said given the continuous fiscal indiscipline by government, he does not see any good innovation in 2014.
