Carpenter Jailed For Duping A Police Officer

A 36-year-old carpenter has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Mr William Boampong for duping a police officer and one other person to the tune of GH2,840.00. The court also ordered Anthony Yaw Kyeremeh to refund the money after serving out the jail term. He had pleaded guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretense. The convict had collected the money to supply, Mr Eric Oduro, a police officer and Mr George Odei, a banker, with wooden doors and frames but failed to deliver. Police Inspector Gulliver Tenkorang told the court that Mr Oduro had contracted Kyeremeh to make 14 wooden doors for a house he was building at Esereso in Kumasi in February, 2013 and paid an agreed sum of GH920.00 to him. About five months later, the convict sent pictures of the finished work, based on which, the police officer introduced him to the banker, who also gave to him an amount of GH1,900.00 for some doors and window frames. After taking the money he went into hiding and the victims through checks, realized that they had been swindled. It was established that Kyeremeh was after all not a carpenter as he had made them to believe. He was arrested following a tip off and he admitted the offence in his caution statement.
