Former Member of Parliament (MP) of Tain, Joe Dankwa, has accused the current Mahama administration of superintending over the collapse of the education sector of the country.
According to him, caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), especially those in his constituency had not been paid for services they rendered for many months after several complaints to government.
The former legislature noted that in some of the beneficiary schools, pupils are fed twice or thrice a week, a situation he said was negatively affecting the programme.
Mr. Dankwa appealed to government to put measures in place to save the progamme from collapse, adding that �many children were convinced to be in school because they were assured of launch so we can�t fail them.
The GSFP was introduced by the previous Kufour administration to improve enrollment in basic schools but the current administration has been faced with several challenges in revamping the programme.
Touching on the recent controversy surrounding the scrapping of allowances of teacher trainees in the country, Mr. Dankwa said the development would adversely affect education, especially the posting of teachers to deprived communities .
He therefore called on government to adopt measures to address the problems.
The former MP called on government to do every thing possible to improve the conditions of services of teachers so as to encourage them to accept postings to the remote areas of the country to educate the children.
