The Annual celebration of the infamous 31st December coup d�etat which has often been characterized by a lot of activities is not likely to take place this year.
This, according to Daily Guide sources, is due to the unavailability of funds for the programme.
The day is set aside by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to commemorate the overthrow of the Limann regime on 31st December 1981 by Mr. Rawlings, who happens to be the founder of NDC.
The event, which has virtually become the �baby� of former President Jerry Rawlings and his wife, is said to be suffering a major setback following a decision by the NDC to withdraw financial support for it.
Attempts to speak with officials of the Office of former President Rawlings which has often been coordinating the activists for the 31st December celebrations proved unsuccessful.
Rawlings �Spokesman� Kofi Adams was also not on hand for comment, since he did not answer calls put to his phone, for clarification.
The office usually sends detailed information about planned activities for the celebration to the media for attention and coverage.
But no such press release was set this year, thereby lending credence to the speculation about lack of funds for the celebration.
Surprisingly, Mr. Rawlings himself did not even say anything about the celebration when he got the opportunity to speak at the 26th anniversary celebration of the Samanpiid festival in the Kusaug traditional area of the Upper East Region yesterday.
