Rawlings 19-Year Rule Was Without Corruption...

Many have argued that Ghanas former President and founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings cannot escape the clobbering of past leaders accused of being corrupt despite the punishment he (Rawlings) meted out to leading military officers alleged to have indulged in acts of corruption. But a member of the communication team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alhaji Naziru Mohammed claims Rawlings regime was without any form of sleaze since the revolt he led in 1981 resulted in freeing up opportunities that led to the socio-economic and socio-political advancement of the country. Marking the 32nd anniversary of the 31st December Revolution, the former president, in a statement, asked Ghanaians to play their role in instilling sound values of probity, accountability, freedom and justice in the country. "Some of us cannot and will never depart from the principles that led to the revolution and sustained it for so long. We shall continue to confront the rot that is eroding the values many laid down their lives for. The struggle continues," he said. Commenting on the statement by Mr. Rawlings, the NDC communicator in an interview with Peacefmonline.com has maintained that 31st December Revolution was in no doubt a cleansing act that ensured a halt to the reign of corrupt dealings in the country. .there is no doubt that the Revolution instilled some values that led to the democratic credentials which Ghana is proud of today; without mincing words Rawlings lived up to his ideals because 19 years of his rule has no record of corruption. Some senior Journalists in the country looked into his administration and found none; this gives him credence to always comment on issues relating to corruption and probity and accountability, he asserted.
