An aspiring Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has paid more than GH20,000 to cover nomination fees of candidates vying for regional executive positions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and promised to crown it with financing the regional elections to elect executive officers later this month. He said he had embarked on a mission to bring life into the party to enable it to recapture power in 2016 and the payment of the amount was just part of the whole exercise. Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Kumasi, Mr Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, said he had also financed the organisation of polling station elections and constituency elections in the region. When nominations for regional positions opened last Sunday, Mr Antwi-Boasiako stunned prospective candidates and regional executives with the payment of the amount. Following the gesture, as many as 18 candidates filed for positions on the first day of nominations. Officials were expecting the numbers to increase before the close of nominations later this week. Mr Antwi-Boasiako who is also the Bosomtwe Constituency chairman of the NPP said the payment was not to entice delegates to vote for him in the chairmanship contest where he would face off with former Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang, Mr Kwame Osei Prempeh. He explained that what he did was service to God and man and that he would always share what he has with other party members. Promising never to turn his back to the NPP, the aspirant said he NPP needed all hands on deck to enable it claw back to power in 2016.
