2013 Was Tough Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said that the year 2013 was quite tough due to the ill-intent of the opposition, New Patriotic Party (NPP), who, out of pettiness, distracted governance with an eight-month election petition at the Supreme Court. He has, however, assured Ghanaians that 2014 would be better due to the strategic measures instituted by the President John Dramani Mahamas NDC government. Mr Asiedu Nketiah was speaking at the inauguration of the Dormaa Central NDC party office in Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region. He called on NDC party faithful to rally solidly behind the government to ensure the fulfillment of all campaign promises in order to retain power in 2016. The NDC general secretary also used the occasion to calm the nerves of some party members who had expressed concern about the delay of the election of party executives in the various branches, constituencies, regions and at the national level. He indicated that there was no ill motive behind the delay, as is being alleged. He added that the NDC had decided to do a biometric registration of members to know the actual members of the party. Mr Asiedu Nketiah explained that the biometric registration of members would help sanitise internal party elections, minimise wranglings in the party, give power to the people and save cost in organising conferences and congresses to elect national executives and presidential candidates in future. He, therefore, called on the members of the party to exercise patience and support the move by the party to go biometric. The Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah, gave an assurance that the NDC would win the Dormaa Central parliamentary seat, indicating that professionally, the NPP was good in opposition, so in order to wrest the seat from them, there was the need to unite and support the current Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Gordon Asubonteng, to deliver as expected. He emphasised that all promises made by the NDC would come to pass before 2016 to help bury the NPP for good. Mr Asubonteng commended the constituency executives, members and the people of Dormaa for their support during his confirmation and throughout his work and pledged that he would do his best to ensure the rapid development of the area.
