The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has called on Ghanaians not to settle for mediocrity this year. He said Ghana would be a better place, if Ghanaians would offer a sacrifice of service in 2014. �If only Ghanaians could offer a sacrifice of service to everyone they meet, be it on the road, at the market and their offices, what a beautiful country Ghana would be,� he said. Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle made the call Sunday in a homily he delivered at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra to induct new officers of the Knighthood Forum of the Catholic Church. The forum has Lt-General Sir Fred K. Akwaboah as its Chairman; Sir Knight Ekow Paintsil, Vice-Chairman; Sister Cecilia Aisha Armah, Secretary, and Respected Lady Sister Mary I. Harlley as Treasurer. Sunday�s service was also in commemoration of the Epiphany of the Lord, a celebration of the Three Wisemen, which draws the curtain on the Christmas festivities. Admonition Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle explained that the gift of gold, frankincense and myrrh presented by the wisemen to the child Jesus represented excellence, worship and sacrifice. That, he said, should inspire Ghanaians to offer excellent services, serve people in whatever field or profession they found themselves to the best of their ability, exude hope and seek to improve things for the better. �Never forget your calling. Let us give nothing but the best in all we do and we shall be happy and leave Ghana a better place,� Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle urged. He said if Ghanaians entered 2014 with the spirit and attitude of the three wisemen, �Ghana will be a better place�. Perseverance Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle encouraged Ghanaians to persevere in all they did and never give up. He said challenges would come everyone�s way but it was important that they exuded the spirit of hope and never gave up since it was unChristian to do so. He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to offer their services with the aim of improving the lives of others. For nurses and doctors in particular, Most Rev Palmer-Buckle asked them to regard patients as God�s kind on earth and give them the best of care, and teachers should also treat their students in the best way, no matter how troublesome they might be. Advice to Parents Speaking on the significance of what the wise men did, the Most Reverend Palmer-Buckle advised parents to give their best to their children because children were divine. �Every child is divine; they are the gifts of God so give them your time, your talent and your treasure,� he charged.
