BNI & CID Must Investigate Criminality Of Vickileaks Claims

In spite of the fact that the committee set up by the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Wood, to look into the petition filed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the infamous Vickileaks saga, has dismissed application, a Private Legal Practitioner, Dr. Maurice Ampaw, wants the security agencies, especially the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to delve into the case and unravel the criminal aspect of the Vickileaks allegation. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, the General Secretary of the opposition NPP petitioned the Chief Justice to investigate claims made in the leaked tape by sacked Deputy Communications Minister Victoria Hamah that the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur influenced the nine justices to give judgment in favor of the sitting president John Mahama. After weeks of investigations which saw both Afriyie and Oye Lithur, appearing before the committee, the petition has been thrown out because the key actor, Victoria Hamah failed to appear before the committee despite several invitations. The committee did not have the power to subpoena her to answer queries in the leaked tape due to the fact that the committee was acting on administrative wings of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. But responding to the issue on Hot Fm, Lawyer Maurice Ampaw asserted that he foresees nothing conclusive about the case. He maintained that the committee was set up to clear the judges of the bribery allegation and not with the intention to dig into the mystery surrounding the leaked tape involving the Supreme Court judges who sat the 2012 Presidential Election Petition. ..we should be serious as a nation because what Vic said is serious and so I am calling on Ghana Police, CID and BNI to begin investigation into the allegation. To me, it bothers on criminality because if there is information that someone has gone to see the Supreme Court judges then it is a matter of bribery and influenceif the committee could not handle the case then it is inconclusive, he opined.
