This year�s Sprite Ball Championship will witness another ground-breaking layout with an official opening ceremony expected to take place at the studios of TV3 on Thursday January 9, 2014. All twenty-four (24) participating schools will converge at the studios of TV3 for the ground-breaking ceremony which will usher in the 2014 Sprite Ball Championship and shown LIVE from 6pm. The ceremony will also see the unveiling of the giant trophy with players and officials expected to receive motivational messages from accomplished personalities. Two �time WBC Super Featherweight champion Professor Azumah Nelson as well as the chairman of the Ghana Basketball Association David Addo-Ashong will be in attendance. Also in attendance will be officials of the Ghana Education Service as well as officials of the Ghana Basketball Association and some heads of the various participating schools. The draw for the prestigious championship was held last Monday on Sports station which threw up some interesting and intriguing fixtures in both the boys and girls division. In the boys division, defending champions Mfantsipim have drawn Accra High, St Augustine�s and St John�s in group D. Group A comprises of Volta Regional powerhouse Keta Senior High, Ghana Lebanon and Islamic School (GLISS), Kumasi-based Prempeh College and Adisadel College. Last year�s losing finalist Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS) have West African Senior High, Opoku Ware and Mawuli in company in pool B. The final group C in the boys divisions sees Western show boys Ghana Secondary and Technical School drawn up against Presec Boys-Legon, Kumasi Anglican Senior High School and Eastern Regional-based Akwamuman. Meanwhile the girls division also threw up some enthralling fixtures with group A in particular one that has wet fans appetite ahead of the hugely anticipated championship at the El-Wak sports stadium. The group pits two former champions in the same group which comprises of reigning champions Aggrey Memorial, 2012 champions Yaa Asantewaa and Labone Senior High. Group B sees Kadjebi-Asato lock horns with last year�s losing finalist St Mary�s, Mfantseman Girls and T.I Ahmadiya Senior High. Enthusiasm is building up for the biggest High School basketball championship in the West African country with an eye for the giant trophy and prestige top of the agenda of the 24 schools. The 2014 Sprite Ball Championship is expected to attract over 10,000 fans at the citadel of basketball in Ghana � the El-Wak sports stadium between Friday January 10 and Saturday January 11, 2014.
