Take Azonto To Brazil - Ato Ahwoi

Former Board chairman of Accra Hearts of Oak Ato Ahwoi has charged members of the Black Stars and the technical team to showcase the Azonto dance on the world stage during the soccer festival in Brazil. Mr Ahwoi, current board chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), headline sponsor of the Black Stars, said it was high time the Stars commercialized Azonto, a unique type of dance popular among Ghanaian youth. He made this remark when the GFA bestowed an honour on him and some other individuals for their contribution to Ghana football in Accra last Friday. He noted that the peculiar nature of the dance had attracted attention from some neigbouring countries who were demonstrating signs of claiming ownership. Mr Ahwoi, under whose reign Hearts of Oak recorded an unprecedented six-streak league titles, therefore tasked the playing body to celebrate their wins with the Azonto dance. I want you to showcase the Azonto dance at the world stage. I hear some West African neighbours are claiming ownership. Our players and their technical men should learn how to dance it well, and show this to the whole world when they score, he said. Meanwhile, he has charged the team to go all out, and when they make a semi final berth, GNPC will show its appreciation by giving the team a bigger monetary package. President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi praised Mr. Ahwoi for his immense contribution to the countrys football. He also commended sponsors of the Black Stars like GNPC, Unibank, Latex Foam, Guinness, CCTC and others for their support and appealed to other corporate bodies to follow suit.
