Driver And Vehicle Licensing Authority Needs Brake-Testing Machine

The Western Regional Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has made an urgent appeal to the government to supply it with a brake-testing machine to ensure effective and efficient testing of vehicle brakes. Mr Godson Wemegah, Western Regional Licensing Manager, told the GNA in Takoradi that currently his outfit had to drag vehicles on the ground to test the effectiveness of their brakes, saying, it is not the best. He said although the Authority had plans of acquiring the device with its Internally-Generated Funds, it would welcome a donation of the equipment. The DVLA manager said the regional office complex needed to be fenced to discourage intruders like middlemen popularly called the Goro boys from harassing prospective clients who thronged the place to register their vehicles and renew documents. Explaining how the Authority dealt with counterfeit licences, Mr Wemegah said, it had a multi-functional counterfeit detector that enabled them to detect fake licences and receipts. He added that all counterfeit licences and documents seized by the Authority were destroyed immediately to avoid being circulated. Mr Wemegah said apart from the regional office in Takoradi that undertakes vehicle registration, it had two district offices at Sefwi-Wiawso and Tarkwa that facilitate the issuance of road worthy certificates, driving licences and inspection of road crashes in the region.
