Statistical Service To Embark On Labour Survey

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will from next week embark on a labour market survey that will assess and value critical skills in government and quasi-governmental institutions. According to the GSS, the findings of the survey will be used to provide information for the determination of market premium in the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy. Speaking to Citi News, government statistician, Dr. Philomena Nyarko said the survey will reduce the growing labour agitations. According to Dr. Nyarko, the labour market survey that is being conducted will provide the needed statistics on the labour and job market at various levels of policy, decision making and planning for the grant of the market premium. The study will cover organizations in both the public and private sectors of the economy as well as relevant international organizations on issues relating salaries and other conditions of service within the sectors which employ such identified skills. According to her, the successful implementation of this survey will ensure that the recent challenges experienced on the labour front as a result of the single spine pay policy and the market premium in particular are surmounted.
