Accusations Galore.....Gen Mosquito Blames NPP For Merbank-Fortiz Brouhaha

General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah also known as General Mosquito has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of generating the controversies surrounding the Merchant Bank-Fortiz deal. General mosquito says the NPP should be blamed for playing politics with Merchant-Bank Fortiz deal because they were the first to have held a press conference; blaming the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama for their involvement. According to him, the whole debate which seems not to have a closure yet would not have surfaced had they (NPP) not leveled untrue allegations. NPP should be blamed for the hullabaloo surrounding the Merbank-Fortiz saga. When the issue came, they were the first to have accused President Mahama of corruption. That started the politicking; but this should not have been an issue of politicsThe NDC on the other hand could not also sit down for such an allegation to be leveled against the President and so had to rebut; otherwise when it (allegation) continues it can be classified as the truth. But this is a business oriented issue and not politics and so it should be treated as such. Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on Kokrokoo on some five questions he has forwarded to the NPP, Gen Mosquito feels Ghanaians as well as the NPP will be able to bring the issue to a closure if they are able to answer them. In a press statement, Gen Mosquito asked: 1. Since we cannot be dealing with the symptoms of the disease without bothering about the cause, the first question that comes up is, how did Merchant Bank get to its current predicament? 2. Is it in the best interest of workers of Ghana and the nation at large for SSNIT not to do anything about the bank (i.e. to maintain the status quo)? 3. If not, is there a better way of dealing with the bank than that which is contained in the Fortis Deal? 4. Were the representatives of workers (contributors of SSNIT) involved in all the Board decisions of SSNIT on the Merchant Bank issue? 5. Finally (and the main reason why the leadership of NDC got interested in this debate) Has there been any conflict of interest on the part of President Mahama, President Mills or any other NDC government official in the granting, disbursement or recovery effort of Merchant Bank of any Loan to Engineers and Planners or any of the other leading loan defaulters?
