To the many who have wondered about the lack of formal response from the office of Former President John Agyekum Kufuor to the recent accusations of being an �autocratic thief� thrown at his person by ex-President Jerry John Rawlings; well, the answer could be anybody�s guess. But a leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) offers an answer. He insists it is not because Mr Kufuor is fearful of staging an open confrontation with his predecessor, nor because there is an iota of truth in the claims. Mr. Rawlings has consistently accused all his successors of being corrupt. He has however singled out President Kufuor for special mention, describing him as a �very corrupt man� who �stole massively� from government coffers to enrich himself between 2001 and 2008. Former President Rawlings as a Guest of Honor said last week at the closing ceremony of the regional camp of the International Youth Fellowship at the Adidome Senior High School in the Volta Region that Mr. Kufuor is an �autocratic thief�. However, NPP Member of Parliament for the people of Nkoranza North, Hon. Major (Rtd) Derek Oduro says the want of a formal response is because Mr Kufuor wants his achievements in government to do the talking for him in respect of the myriad of �gibberish� accusations leveled against him. He added rather derisively that former president Kufuor does not speak as though from a �Chamber pot� as Mr Rawlings is noted for. ��..Kufuor does not stoop so low by pontificating in the gibberish style of Rawlings�..he will not respond as though he is speaking from the chamber pot, as Rawlings often does. No, if you do that then you are not a statesman. If a mad man takes away your piece of cloth while bathing, you don�t rush out naked to chase the mad man for your cloth. Kufuor will not waste his time to respond to Rawlings� garbage utterances; he leaves that to the good people of Ghana to judge,� he said on Hot Fm. He also maintained that the utterances of Rawlings before school children does not come to him as a surprise, since he (Rawlings) is noted for imparting to the youth, the Culture of Insult during the era of military rule.
