GWCL Simply Needs To Improve Delivery System Instead Of Piloting Prepaid Metering For Water

An Aspiring National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has urged authorities of the Ghana Water Company Limited to properly manage the country's water system in order to generate revenue for the nation. The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) on Friday, January 17, 2014 was pressed upon to use Direct Debit payment system to reduce revenue losses. It indicated that due to the refusal of some consumers to pay their water bills, it has run into some commercial losses and so, will pilot a prepaid metering system for water as it battles its challenges. But speaking on Oman FM, John Boadu called on the authorities to put in place a good management mechanism to resolve the water crises in the country. For months now, several communities in the country have been confronted by severe water shortages and as part of measures to curb the situation; the prepaid meter water system is to be introduced. The NPP Aspirant explained that the GWCL cannot pilot its new initiative without first finding solution to make the supply of water accessible to Ghanaians. To him, the authorities need to set a goal that will help them "do proper monitoring and evaluation" and also "punish (people) as well as reward people who are doing a good work for the country. By improving their delivery system, he believed water problems in the country will significantly dwindle.
