30 In Hot Chase For B/A NPP Executive Positions

The serene city of Sunyani, capital of the Brong Ahafo Region, will be awashed with the white, red and blue colours of the opposition New Patriotic Party on Saturday, as delegates converge at the Sunyani Pastoral Centre for congress to elect regional executives for the party. With aspirants for the various positions at the last leg of their campaign across the length and breadth of the region, trying to convince delegates as to why they are the best for the positions, the dust is set to settle when the delegates speak by the close of day on Saturday. After successfully sailing through the vetting process which was supervised by Martin Adjei Korsah, Director of Elections at the partys National Headquarters in Accra, 30 candidates are seeking to fill the 10 vacancies up for grab. Taking the centre stage of the elections is the position of the Regional Chairman, where Kwadwo Yeboah-Fordjour is staging a comeback for the position he once occupied. Others who are challenging the incumbent Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh for the position are Kwame Twumasi-Awuah, a private legal practitioner and former Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, and Kwaku Adjei, a former executive member of the Ghana National Association of Teachers. Also attracting much attention is the contest for the organiser, where Kofi Darko is also seeking a comeback at a time the incumbent Appiah Mensah is not seeking re-election. Others in the race are Bartholomew Inkoom, a former Sunyani East organiser, Halidu Miaga, former parliamentary candidate for Dormaa West, Biri Korang, a popular Accra based serial caller, and Kwasi Agyekum, a former organiser in the Berekum constituency. Another one of much interest is the contest for the womens organiser. Felicia Adoma is seeking to re-capture the position she once occupied, against a still challenge from the incumbent Justina Owusu-Banahene and Ama Amponsah, a business tycoon. Four persons, Paul Oko, former Member of Parliament for Asutifi, J.Y. Appiah, former GALCA Chairman, Thomas Adu Appiah and Shaibu Musa Bamba are vying for the 1st Vice Chairman position in a contest that can go anybodys way. In the race for the 2nd vice chairman position are Kwame Aidoo, Ernest Kusi-Duah and Mensah Joseph; while Kofi Ofosu Boateng, the current Communications Director, and Jephthiah Appau are seeking to assist either Alfred Ofori Annye or Yaw Dwomoh who are in a two-man race for the secretary position. Mr Ofori Annye is the incumbent secretary. The current Regional Youth Organiser, Nana Sekyere Boateng, is also facing stiff opposition from three persons, Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye DC, a vociferous party youth activist, Michael Osei Boateng and Gausu Baba Mohammed, for the youth job. Alhaji Issah Isaka, the Regional Treasurer, is also battling to retain his position, facing a stiff challenge from Kwaku Boadi-Kwakye.
