RTP Organisers Pay Tribute To Komla Dumor

We at Big Events; organizers of Radio and Television Personality (RTP) Awards received the news about the passing away of ace broadcaster Komla Dumor, with shock, utter disbelief and grief. We were shocked because Komla was so alive, full of life, young and had lots of promise. We were in disbelief because Komla was on air hours earlier doing what he knew best and was attending events with friends. We grief because this great ambassador of Ghana who was a gem in broadcasting and a Radio & TV Personality par excellence, is gone with all the talents yet untapped. Komla raised the bar of broadcasting to a height which is admired by lots of people around the world and we believe without a shred of doubt that Komla would have been a real contender to the top most award of Radio and TV Personality and would have probably won it many times if he was still presenting in Ghana when the RTP Awards was instituted. It is ironically painful that Komla has passed away just as Big Events and the Awards Committee have decided to institute an international personality category in the 2014 edition of the RTP Awards to honour Ghanaian presenters who are blazing the trail on radio and TV abroad. We believe that even in death, Komlas memory should be honoured in an appropriate fashion for the excellent work that he did as a radio presenter and later becoming a TV presenter. Komla Dumor was a visionary, a goal getter, a humane person, an epitome of hard-work-and-commitment-pays. We are proud of the manner in which he passionately used radio and TV to touch and impact on lives around the world. Komla, you have paid your dues no matter how short your life on earth was. We will forever cherish your contributions to transforming radio and TV in Ghana to what it is today. Rest in perfect peace in the Lord, Komla.
