Manchester United have opened preliminary talks with Southampton over a �20 million swoop for Luke Shaw.
The Premier League champions have made their move for the teenage prodigy as they attempt to make a second statement signing of the January window.
United want to follow up the �37m capture of Juan Mata by trumping Chelsea to the signing of Shaw.
