A 15-year-old boy was last Wednesday found dead in a goats� pen at Deme, a suburb of Ho in the Volta Region, in a posture that suggested he had hanged himself.
The scene, which looked like a suicide scene, had residents wondering what could have caused the boy to hang himself to death.
The Police said they were making arrangements to convey the body of the boy to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.
The Ho Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Nicholas Opare Ofosu-Hene narrated that the boy was a primary five pupil of the Fiave EP Basic School and living with his guardians Emmanuel Fianu and wife Mary.
The couple also had a little girl and two other boys about the age of Stephen living with them.
Stephen, whose parents were in Hordzo, also in the Ho Municipality, had been staying with the couple for the past four years.
On that fateful morning, the three kids woke up to perform their usual chores. One of the lads was responsible for washing cooking utensils, the other sweeping the compound while Stephen cleaned the goats� pen.
The two others finished their chores, yet Stephen was nowhere to be found, and so Madam Mary Fianu thought he had gone out of the house. As a result, she decided to go and clean the goats� pen herself to save time.
Just as she got there, she found Stephen hanged by a rope with his tongue sticking out.
Apparently, the rope was one of three used to hang weeds and grass for the goats to eat.
She immediately called the husband who was on his way to work at Peki.
The Police was called in and investigations began.
Corporal Collins Antwi confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that the body was currently at the morgue of the Ho Municipal Hospital awaiting transfer to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.
Superintendent Nicholas Opare Ofosu-Hene, the Municipal Police Commander, noted that although there was no evidence of foul play, it would not be totally ruled out.
He added that parents and guardians should keep a close eye on their children and other dependents.
They should also check their friends and regulate the kind of programmes the children watch and listen to on television and radio to prevent them from picking up violent and depraved behaviour, the police chief added.
He however consoled the family of the deceased boy for their sudden loss.
