NDC Spent Hugely In 2012 Polls

A member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communication Team, Brogya Gyamfi, has pointed out that his party won the 2012 elections because it spent hugely. It was important for us to overspend as every government does in every election year to retain power, he emphasised. Speaking on the state of Ghanas economy on Asem Yi Di Ka, one of the flagship programs of Amansan TV in Accra, Brogya Gyamfi admitted that although the cedi is steadily depreciating, the Mahama administration is working assiduously to stabilise it [the cedi] against the major foreign currencies. He cautioned politicians not to politicise issues about the economy. That, according to him, was because some of the factors militating against the economy were global and must be handled devoid of partisan politics. Commenting on the same subject as a panelist on the programme, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency chairman in Achiase, in the Eastern Region, Kofi Marfo, chastised the NDC for collapsing the economy through incompetence and greediness. Describing the current state of the economy, he compared it with a Ghanaian living abroad without necessary legal documents to enjoy full status as a foreigner. He challenged the NDC to show Ghanaians one single social intervention they have introduced since assuming office in 2009 having been touted as Social Democrats. He called on Ghanaians to vote NDC out of power in 2016 and bring the NPP back, adding that it is the only party- [the NPP] that can bring economic prosperity to Ghanaians. National Youth Coordinator of Progressive Peoples Party (PPP,) Divine Nkrumah, who was also on the show, expressed his displeasure about the way the countrys economy is being managed by the NDC. How can you have a government whose only concern is to amass wealth without considering the rest of us, he said. He could not understand why in spite of all the nations natural resources, Ghanaians are still battling with poverty and diseases. He appealed to Ghanaians to reject both the NDC and the NPP in 2016 and bring the PPP which according to him, is the best political party in Ghana at the moment.
