�The law is the law�when people have done something (wrong), as a country we must not reward indiscipline. We have done everything that is humanly possible. It is not as if we don�t feel sympathy or we can�t feel what the people are going through�� says Public Relations Officer of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC), Madam Dorothy Kumah. TDC has been in the media recently after they razed down buildings in the Tema West Constituency last Tuesday. Hundreds of people were made homeless after their houses were demolished for allegedly encroaching on a land belonging to the TDC. Many are those who have condemned the demolishing because according to residents, they were not given prior notice. Some cried and wailed because the authorities did not allow them to pack their items from their rooms. However, the Public Relations Officer of TDC says the attitude of Ghanaians to condemn every demolition exercise is not fair because the bad people are the encroachers and not TDC. According to her, Ghanaians should not �reward indiscipline� because the residents paid deaf ears to their several warnings to vacate the land. Asked if TDC had a court permit to demolish the buildings she stated on Kokrokoo programme: �We don�t need a court permit; what we need is to notify those occupying the illegal structures. The law says there must be a reason for the demolition and you must give the people prior notice. It doesn�t say we should go to court to acquire a demolition notice before embarking on such an exercise. People have encroached on the land without paying a dime for it. They have gone ahead to build on it; it as an illegality and that is why I am saying we should not reward indiscipline," she added.
