Im The Only Champion General Secretary Sir John

New Patriotic Party General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has downplayed the prospects of all challengers seeking to unseat him as party scribe, saying he remains the darling of a mass of supporters who will vote to retain him. He has also rubbished accusations that he, together with the present crop of national executives who are seeking re-election, have mismanaged the party and performed poorly and would therefore not be retained. Businessman and party financier, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has even threatened to wage a campaign against their re-election bid, accusing them of corruption and poor leadership. He has also threatened to quit the party and form one if the leaders dare him. Again Owusu Afriyie, also called Sir John, has dismissed the claims and threats, saying while the threat to break away does not seem real for a bolder person would have proceeded with his plan without alerting anyone Ken Agyapong has not given the party even a dime to give him the audacity to claim to have financed the party. The NPP holds elections on March 1, 2014 to elect national executives, for which race it had opened nominations since Monday. The exercise closes today, Wednesday, January 29, 2014. The campaigning has been characterized in part by bitter accusations but has been generally smooth and will pave the way for the election of a flagbearer to lead the party into elections 2016.
