Two In Court For Defying Otumfuos Order

Police at Asokwa in Kumasi have arrested two persons for offensive conduct and trespassing, defying the order of the Asantehene that no one should enter a particular piece of land. The two Sarpong Kumankuma, 65, and Kwadwo Sarfo, 45 were said to have gone to a land at the centre of litigation and the Asantehene ordered that nobody set foot on the land until the true owners of the land were determined. Briefing The Finder on the facts of the case, the Asokwa District Police Commander, Superintendent Rev. Dr Nana Nyamekye Adane Ameyaw, said that in August last year they received a complaint from the Odikro of Nahiniso, Nana Addo Boampong, that the queen mother of Akokofe, Nana Amankwa Ababio, had taken a parcel of land at Nahiniso which belonged to him. According to the police, because it was a land issue, he reported it to the Asantehene, who set a committee headed by the chief of Atwima, Nana Antwi Agyei Ababio, to investigate to know the true owners of the land. After that, the divisional commander said the king further ordered that nobody set foot on the land until the findings of a committee set to investigate the matter is made public to determine the true owner of the land. He also asked the police to keep an eye on the land, thus making sure that nobody goes there. He said he received a complaint last Friday that the two suspects were seen working on the land in question, adding that after their arrest and investigations the two have been put before the Bekwai Circuit Court, where they were charged with the offence. The court, presided over by Mr Daniel Kwaku Obeng, remanded them into police custody to re-appear on February 12.
