An avalanche of criticisms have been unleashed on Archbishop Duncan Williams following his infamous prayer to save the cedi from any further downward spiral.
The Archbishop on Sunday led his congregation to pray for God to halt the free fall of the cedi against the US dollar, the British pound sterling as well as other major trading currencies.
��I hold up the cedi with prayer and I command the cedi to recover and I declare the cedi will not fall; it will not fall any further. I command the cedi to climb. I command the resurrection of the cedi. I command and release a miracle for the economy," he prayed.
But the respected Man of God�s spirit-filled prayer was politicized moments after the media made it public. Whiles some described the Archbishop�s prayer as a �comic relief�, others cynically questioned whether the revered Man of God was praying for the cedi to "rise and stand up" or "walk".
Some even went further to suggest to the ACI General Overseer that God will want Ghanaians to meet him halfway by voting out the NDC in the next general elections before the cedi can be revived.
In response to such deleterious remarks, the respected ACI General Overseer called on Ghanaians to cease politicising issues concerning the fall of the cedi and rather concentrate on contributing their quota to stabilising the depreciating currency.
He further stated that his prayer for God to "spiritually arrest" depreciating value of the local currency is from the wisdom of God but not from the knowledge of men, adding that he spoke and acted from the "scriptural perspective".
The latest to join the fray of bashers is another renowned man of God who has even labeled Duncan Williams as a �hypocrite�.
Rev. Owusu Bempah of the Glorious Word Ministry International first commended the Presiding Bishop and General Overseer of the Christian Action Faith Ministries for doing his best to address the issue but slammed him for failing to blame state officials for being responsible for the depreciation of the currency.
The leader of Glorious Word Ministry International stated on OKAY FM that the current state of Ghana�s economy does not need only prayers but also, a positive change of mind and actions.
�He should have called leaders in government and told them in the face that this and that is wrong. But if he should just say the cedi is falling and then call for prayer, then he is being hypocritical. We must face facts and stop calling for prayers...I simply see him as a hypocrite....We all know him as a leader in this country who can easily call on state officials and talk to them....If I should continue speaking, certain people would come out claiming I don�t respect. But I want to be point-blank that prayer only can�t solve our problems if we don�t develop a positive change towards doing things�, he said.
