UEW 'Not To Blame' Over Student's Death Authorities

The authorities of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), say they are not to be blamed for the death of the student. Its Deputy Registrar, Steve Kamassah, said the student was counselled before the results were released. Speaking to Radio Ghana, Mr. Kamasa said the university will review the modalities for releasing results to students to avert any future occurrence. Meanwhile, a clinical psychologist, Mrs Mabel Oti-Boadi, has called on the counselling units at the various universities to reach out to students in resolving problems confronting them rather than adopt a sit and wait attitude. She said some students are shy of counselling because of the perception that counselling is for those with mental problems. Mrs Oti-Boadu was speaking to Radio Ghana a day after a level two hundred student from the University College of Education Winneba, committed suicide for failing three papers.
