Two Kids Die In Fire, Parents Sustain Burns

A family of four including two children have suffered burns resulting in deaths on Friday at Hohoe-Ahado when electricity power was restored after it had been off as a result of rationing. Mr Kartey Otumi, Hohoe Divisional Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency that two children, Ewurama-eight and Rosemary-six died in the inferno, which neighbours spotted around 2300 hours on Friday. He said Mr Emmanuel Acheampong, 39, trader and car accesseries seller and his wife Mabel Delali Adetor, parents of the children, who suffered severe burns and were rushed to the Volta Regional Hospital were alleged to have been transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra for medical attention. Mr Otumi said the cause of fire was being investigated but preliminary observations could point to electrical combustion around the time power was restored. The Crime Officer suspected that the fire might have started from the hall of the chamber-and-hall apartment and drew in the parents, who might want to save their children. Mr Otumi cautioned members of the public to observe strict precautionary measures during and after power outages to minimise the incidences of accidents.
