Whose Horses?

There is anger and consternation within the top echelons of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Ghana Airports Company over a consignment of 39 thorough bred horses which passed through Kotoka International Airport in December.

The horses are said to have originated from Argentina, but what is raising eyebrows is the suggestion that no taxes were paid on the highly valuable animals, whose tentative value is put as being millions of dollars.

So far, this newspaper has learned that an investigator from Customs has been appointed to look into the whole transaction, and how come the horses were able to be transited through the airport without a dollar being paid in taxes.

As at press time yesterday, the investigator in the matter was not picking his calls.

Highly placed sources at the Kotoka International airport have informed the Daily Searchlight that the consignment of horses arrived on December 23, 2013, and are believed to have been transited through the Unite States.

My brother, what really interests me is the ownership of these horses. Who is suddenly so rich in Ghana that he can afford to buy 39 thoroughbred horses to enjoy in Ghana?one eyewitness wondered.
